Background
As a leading financial services firm, ‘FIRMX’ operates sophisticated data centers for their operations. In 2012 they experienced persistent issues with server restarts, impacting service reliability and causing operational disruptions. This issue not only affected system uptime but also raised concerns about data integrity and security, critical for ‘FIRMX’’s client transactions and financial operations. Despite initial troubleshooting efforts, the root cause remained elusive until environmental factors were considered and a comprehensive deep clean of the data center facilities was determined.
Solution
This led to Flexi being onboarded to diagnose the issue. As per policy, an independent site survey was conducted under the supervision of Flexi’s CDCP. After exhaustive diagnostic tests and checks, the root cause was successfully identified. Specifically, it was identified that server restarts were linked to overheating caused by obstructed airflow and dust buildup. Specialized cleaning protocols were deployed to all assets critical to functioning of the data center, this not only included the basic environment (ie the top of the floors, underfloor plenum and ceiling) but also extended to equipment like the server racks itself. Thorough cleaning was conducted to eliminate accumulated dust and debris that could potentially interfere with cooling mechanisms or trigger electrical shorts.
Impact
Following Flexi’s deep cleaning services ‘FIRMX’ observed a 100% improvement in data center performance. Server restarts were completely eliminated. With environmental conditions restored, ‘FIRMX’ also experienced 100% improvement in server reliability and uptime, crucial for their round-the-clock financial operations and client services.
